Maharaja Review: Astonishing 50th Cinema of Vijay Sethupathi

Maharaja Review:

Nithilan is just a magician in weaving a thrilling plot and maneuvering it over till the end, by keeping the audience thoroughly engaged throughout the movie.
If his first directorial venture ‘Kurangu Bommai’ was thrilling … then this “Maharaja” was thrilling and enchanting till the end. I have no words to review this magnificent movie.
Giving a simple human character seen in our daily walk of life, with an iconic hero image, built through a thrilling story and keeping the audience magically weaved through an enchanting narrative, needs a special talent and effort, and Nithilan possess that…
Vijay Sethupathy, whom I had always referred to as the Tickling Timebomb of Tamil Cinema has proven himself once again in his 50th movie by cementing his place as an lead actor in the contemporary Tamil film industry.
The role played by Anurag Kashyap needs special mention and the same goes for the police team characters who form the fulcrum of the movie.
Few scenes of violence could have been avoided in this movie, which gives a feel of discomfort while watching with family.

Anybody would know why Vijay Sethupathi is an actor with such a speciality when you see his 50th film. His script selection is not a flamboyant star vehicle, but one that requires his comic timing and vulnerability to make it work. Nithilan Swaminathan takes quite a leap of faith in this (Maharaja, Tamil), and just turns out to be informative as it does thrilling. Its a rapid screen play and cast performance make sure that you glued to what is being unfolded on the screen. Deep graining it up to its very name –despite being born in a slum, Maharaja (Vijay Sethupathi) is now dour-faced barber family man with wife and daughter. His life now falls sideways and he is all the more stiff-necked. He who worships his daughter, Jyothi (Sachana Namidass).

I was wondering what would Nithilan Swaminathan as a director and writer deliver and was sceptical about going to theatres and spending on a two hour movie. I regret having missed to have watched it on the first day ..well better late than never. A totally different plot and screenplay, almost an edge of the seat thriller. One movie that I saw at 1 pm and didn’t stifle a yawn is definitely Maharaja. Vijay sethupathi, Anurag Kashyap and all the actors though have played the cast, Nithilan Swaminathan definitely walks away with the crown. Gonna watch his “Kurangu Bommai” which I brushed off as “nah”..
