A Fresh Take on the Survival Genre
Subhash, a fabrication unit worker from Manjummal in Ernakulam district of Kerala, went to Guna Caves on 3 rd September 2006 with his nine friends. He accidentally fell into the deserted cave when walking by a crevice. He was before unrecognizable to the world outside the forests and brought out by his friend Siju David in a frightening and agonizing life-saving salvage.
Despite a board close by becoming a warning to the public not to enter the area “however, it was in Tamil. Recalled in a previous interview, Subhash had fallen within a few seconds in the cave to an estimated depth of 80 feet . He shouted to help. It seems that police, who he suspects of contacting his friends, might fail to provide help. The Fire Services and Forest Department officials showed up later, lowered a rope into the cave. “It was pitch dark, and he did not know whether the rope had reached me.” Said Subhash in a previous interview with the media.
As rescue personnel never showed any interest in entering the life-risking caves, and at that time, it was informed that approximately over 10 people had fallen into the ‘Devil’s Kitchen’ over some time, Siju David volunteered and went down the cave by rappelling utilizing just a 50-foot-long rope. Later, another rope was tied down to make sure he was able to reach Subhash killed him and bound the rope around his body before the rescue team took them out. Until the real life hero of Manjummel Boys gave a statement — a press conference — in Kochi, it appeared as if the rescue act had been obliterated in Tamil Nadu. Siju David stated that those who had died in the cave would have been alive if only someone had entered.
He further stated that; their ordeal continued even after the rescue was successful. The teenagers were charged with entering a fenced area and fined RS 2,500, which he views as a substantial amount. In this connection, a media publication indicates that the director of a fire safety technology institute in Kerala indicated that Siju David would be given a free offer to attend a course and some assistance for his higher studies. The Dindigul Collectors, on the other hand, had previously been cited by the media in the annual flower show inaugurated at Kodaikanal’s Bryant Park on 2007 and 2009, to have discussed projects to enclose fences and safety grills at Guna Caves and other hill station places.
